A letter from the Artistic Director…
A tense political climate, troops returning from war, high unemployment rates, environmental crisis, health care, education, civil and social rights…these are only a few of the issues brewing in Sankofa’s 2012/2013 season. When approaching our second season, I felt it important for Sankofa to further our mission. In order to do so, this season, we are continuing to examine our notions about identity, creating new works and spaces for artist of all mediums to converge, using theatre art to address specific social issues within our communities and promoting dialog and cultural exchange by cultivating diverse audiences, and fostering young artists. Inspired by our tense political and social climate and the conviction that Art transforms society, this year’s three event season, entitled American Gothic, is designed to challenge ourselves to answer the question What does it mean to be an American, today?”
