Season 2012- 2013

The Belmont Project

The Belmont Project was inspired by my own work with homeless GLBTQ youth here in Chicago and the work of artist Vik Muniz in the documentary Wasteland in which he says, “What I want to be able to do is to change the lives of people with the same materials they deal with everyday.” I saw an opportunity to transform the lives of youth living on the street, to mentor and foster young artists and to further Sankofa’s mission to effect social change through theatre art. Help us give voice to the  ranks of displaced, marginalized, abused and abandoned, invisible youth of Boys-town. The Belmont Project is our season’s flagship presentation and is grounded in mentor-ship  We seek to to educate and empower a growing population of LGBTQA, homeless youth to use street performance and artistic expression to transform their environment!
